China Reports Five Deaths in Rain-Triggered Landslides

(MENAFN) At least five people were killed after being trapped in a rain-triggered landslide in China’s southwestern Yunnan province on Sunday, state media reported, citing local authorities.

The landslide struck a road in Lancang Lahu Autonomous County, located in the city of Pu’er, burying a car with five people inside, according to Beijing-based media.

Rescuers launched an hours-long operation to reach the victims, but tragically, all five were found dead beneath the rubble.

Heavy rains in the region often trigger such dangerous landslides, posing ongoing risks to residents and travelers in Yunnan’s mountainous areas. Local officials continue to monitor conditions closely to prevent similar incidents.
