China Announces Firm Backing for Cuba
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning told reporters in Beijing that China “firmly supports Cuba in safeguarding its national sovereignty and security and opposes external interference.”
She added, “We once again urge the US to stop blockade, sanctions and coercion against Cuba at once and act in a way conducive to regional peace and stability.”
The remarks followed Trump’s post on his social media platform Truth Social, where he claimed that Cuba had long depended on Venezuelan oil and funds in exchange for providing security services to Venezuelan leaders.
He announced that this arrangement had ended, writing: “There will be no more oil or money going to Cuba — zero!”
Trump further alleged that many Cubans involved in Venezuelan security operations were killed during a recent US military action, insisting that Venezuela no longer required protection from what he described as criminal groups that had “held them hostage for many years.”
He urged Cuba to seek a new agreement, warning it should act “before it is too late.”
On January 7, shortly after the US operation that captured Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro, Trump identified Cuba as a potential future target of his administration, declaring the Caribbean nation “is ready to fall.”
