China Warns Over UAE Attacks as Iran Tensions Escalate
(MENAFN) Beijing voiced alarm Thursday over strikes on the United Arab Emirates, urging restraint as tensions between the United States and Iran threaten fresh escalation, state media reported.
"The Chinese side firmly opposes any actions that escalate tensions in the region," Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian told reporters in Beijing.
The UAE reported on Monday that renewed Iranian missile and drone strikes had targeted the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone — the first such incidents since a U.S.-Iran ceasefire took effect on April 8. Tehran, however, flatly denied involvement, dismissing the allegations as "unfounded."
"China consistently maintains that the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Middle Eastern Gulf countries should be earnestly respected, and that civilians and non-military targets should be protected," Lin said.
He further stated that the "immediate priority is to achieve an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, prevent further escalation of the conflict, and halt the spread of hostilities."
