Ministers Promote Saskatchewan's Leadership in Nuclear Energy, Mining and Agriculture in Philippines and Japan

CANADA, October 16 - Released on October 16, 2026

Minister of Crown Investments Corporation Jeremy Harrison will lead a mission to the Philippines from October 17 to 23, 2026, to participate in the World Nuclear Supply Chain Conference. Minister of Agriculture David Marit will also lead a mission to Japan from October 17 to 22, 2026, to promote Saskatchewan agriculture and strengthen relationships in the province's third largest agricultural export market.

“Saskatchewan companies are already playing a key role in the global nuclear supply chain, and missions like these ensure that role will continue to grow,” Harrison said. “From world class uranium mining to the skilled workforce and expertise that support it, Saskatchewan businesses have a great deal to offer. By connecting with global industry leaders, we can showcase what our province has to offer and open new opportunities for Saskatchewan as the nuclear industry expands.”

Saskatchewan is home to the world's largest high-grade uranium deposits. The province produces 100 per cent of Canada's uranium and is the second largest uranium producer in the world. The province is also home to internationally recognized industry leaders, leading research institutions and a growing network of suppliers supporting nuclear projects in Canada and around the world.

Nuclear power is a key part of Saskatchewan's long-term plan to strengthen energy security, support economic growth and meet growing electricity demand. Through Delivering Energy Security Through Nuclear Power, the province has set a target of producing at least 2,600 megawatts of nuclear power by 2050 to provide reliable, affordable and secure electricity for a growing population, expanding industries and major investment projects.

"Saskatchewan's presence at this conference is about turning our strengths into opportunities for our province," Harrison said. "By showcasing what Saskatchewan has to offer on the world stage, we can open doors to new investment, new partnerships and new opportunities that support jobs, economic growth and a strong nuclear future for Saskatchewan."

While in Japan, Minister Marit will meet with many long-term buyers of Saskatchewan agrifood products, as well as companies interested in exploring new opportunities in agriculture, minerals and fuel. He also will deliver keynotes at two major business events.

"Japan has traditionally been one of our top five export markets," Marit said. "It is important to demonstrate how much we value this relationship and reinforce our province's reputation as a dependable supplier of high-quality agriculture and food products. It is also important to engage with our trading partners to promote our province’s growing agri-business sector."

In 2025, Saskatchewan exported $1.2 billion in agrifood products to Japan, an increase of almost one third compared to 2024. The province's top agrifood export to Japan last year was canola seed, followed by wheat, barley, durum and malt.

"Saskatchewan continues to prioritize international engagement and market diversification working through our network of international offices," Marit said. "We are building on our global reputation as a strong, stable supplier and economic partner."
