China, Russia Pledge Deeper Military Cooperation During Beijing Talks
Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov, who is visiting China, held discussions with Gen. Zhang Shengmin, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission.
Zhang said relations between the two countries had entered a “new stage of more substantive engagement and faster development, playing a constructive role in maintaining global strategic stability and improving global governance.”
He noted that military cooperation had continued to advance alongside broader bilateral ties, citing progress in senior-level exchanges, joint military drills and training programs.
Zhang also said Beijing was prepared to work with Moscow to strengthen strategic communication, build mutual confidence in defense matters, improve cooperation mechanisms and identify additional areas for collaboration.
Belousov described the strategic partnership between the two countries as having reached an “unprecedentedly high level.”
He also pointed to growing complexity and instability in the international security environment, particularly across the Asia-Pacific region, while expressing Russia's appreciation for China's active involvement in major international and regional affairs.
